I am the most liberal future prosecutor I’ve ever met. I hate the sensationalism of the American media when it comes to criminal trials, and I think it’s obvious based on my previous mentions of the Casey Anthony trial and the Amanda Knox trial that I always keep an open mind when it comes to even really brutal accusations.
Except for the Yeardley Love case.
This spoiled, entitled, impetuous motherfucker murdered his girlfriend and is now throwing every bullshit defense at the wall to see what sticks. Oh, she OD’ed on Adderall! No, just kidding, she suffocated on a pillow that was covered in her own blood! No, my bad, she bashed her own head into a wall.
I know it’s an attorney’s job to provide diligent representation for their client, especially when it comes to a criminal defendant and all the constitutional protections that attach in this instance. And I feel for these attorneys. I do. They’re just logging billable hours for their firm and doing their job.
That being said, I hate this case. I hate it. It makes me sick to my stomach and I hope this kid rots in jail for the rest of his life, or at least a good chunk of it. Because NO jury should let him out of there on just involuntary manslaughter charges (I don’t know how the murder statutes break down in Virginia, but there has to be another option between that and first degree). This is a spoiled brat who was used to getting his way and didn’t get it that night. And he took it out on this poor young girl with all this promise, with all this potential. I never want to sound like Nancy Grace, but I want this kid to fucking sit his ass in jail and realize that his actions have consequences.
This is about as seriously angry as you’ll ever see me. Because you know what? THIS is the kind of culture our kids are going to grow up in, where pissed off guys look to guys like Chris Brown and say, oh, hey, I’ll just slap this girl around a little and she’ll see where she belongs. NO. We can’t let that happen, as a generation.
I still pray for Yeardley and her family every night, and I’m seriously hoping that these prosecutors did their job. She deserves some justice.

I fully understand your outrage at this case because it is absolutely horrible. However, I was at UVA when this happened, and there is sososososo much more to this story than any major news source is reporting. I suggest reading The Daily Progress.

I’ve been following this case too…and I’ve pretty much had the same reaction. I find myself being very open to the defense theory, but here, it makes me so angry that the defense is mucking up the reputatation of this innocent victim.
